| Healthy Kefir Grains |
|
|
A couple of years ago, I was gifted with a nice culture of healthy kefir grains. I have enjoyed my grains immensley, and with care, they have continued to grow and multiply by leaps and bounds. My friends and neighbors have tired of me trying to re-home my extra grains with them, and so, faced with my ever-expanding abundance, I have decided to offer my grains for sale to people outside my small circle of local friends and neighbors.
Purchasing is easy and inexpensive. Properly care for, your kefir grains will last forever. It is perfectly possible for your great, great grandchildren to still be making kefir off of the culture that you give them. An order consists of approx 1/4 cup good sized kefir grains, enough to culture about a quart of milk. Of course, these grains will grow quickly and you will soon have grains to share, dry, or eat. I use raw goats milk to make my kefir, but cows milk works great too, as does pasturized milk, but don't try to use "ultra pasturized" milk, it is just too dead to make good kefir.
A 1/4 cup of kefir grains is $10, plus $5 shipping and handling. I can ship out any day of the week that I have extra grains. If I've sold a lot that week and am on low supply, I'll let you know where else you might get some if you don't want to wait. Email me and I'll let you know if I have enough supply to ship some out and I'll either send you a pay pal invoice if you'd like to pay with pay pal and get your grains faster, or an address where you can send a check or money order. What could be easier?
Simple Directions for making kefir When you first get your kefir grains they will be in a state of "shipping shock" and will need some fresh milk and several days to revitalize themselves. Simply rinse them with a small amount of fresh milk, and then gently transfer them to a clean quart jar. Cover with milk, screw on a lid, write the date and time on the top of the jar set in a quiet spot on the kitchen counter and then wait 24 hours. After 24 hours is up..(no you do not have to be entirely precise with this), strain through a plastic strainer, again rinse with a bit of fresh milk, put them in a clean jar and let set again for 24 hours. This first kefir milk will be terrible and you need to toss it. The second batch will be better, but again, it might be terrible. It can take up to two weeks to totally revitalize your kefir grains, depending on how hard of a trip they had. After a few days you should be able to start drinking your wonderful kefir!
Your grains will grow every single day and you can divide them up and give them to whoever you know that would like them. You can also dry them or eat them.
